Senior Communications and Engagement Consultant

Our clients require communications and engagement specialists to support the design and delivery of high-impact external communications, stakeholder engagement and reputation management activity within a cutting-edge part of the UK's national security community.

Working as part of a dynamic communications team, you will partner with campaign leads and subject matter experts to develop communications strategies, shape compelling narratives and deliver integrated engagement activity that supports organisational objectives. Core responsibilities

  • Support the development and delivery of integrated external communications and stakeholder engagement strategies.

  • Provide communications advice and consultancy to campaign leads and senior stakeholders.

  • Develop audience insight, stakeholder maps and engagement plans to inform campaign delivery.

  • Create high-quality communications products including leadership messaging, press releases, speeches, blogs, briefing materials and digital content.

  • Plan and deliver external engagement activities including events, conferences, announcements and media engagements.

  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders across government and partner organisations.

  • Develop compelling campaign narratives and key messages tailored to different audiences.

  • Maintain communications plans, core briefing products, and handling plans.

  • Monitor, evaluate and report on communications effectiveness, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Identify emerging risks and opportunities, providing and implementing communications advice to support organisational reputation.

  • Audience insight: Using research, insight and stakeholder intelligence to shape messaging and engagement activity.

  • Storytelling and messaging: Turning complex technical or policy information into compelling narratives for diverse audiences.

  • Reputation and campaign management: Supporting integrated communications campaigns while balancing organisational priorities and reputational considerations.

  • Evaluation: Measuring communications impact using qualitative and quantitative insights to continually improve activity.

  • Consultancy and influencing: Confident advising stakeholders, challenging constructively and translating communications expertise into practical solutions.

  • Content creation: Excellent writing skills with experience producing speeches, media materials, leadership communications, digital content and presentations.

  • Design and digital: Confident using Microsoft Office. Experience of Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar design tools is desirable.

 

Requirements

  • A CIPR, IOIC or similar professional qualification in communications, or at least three years delivery experience  

  • Security clearance: Active DV (developed vetting) clearance is essential

  • Ability to work on client site from either Cheltenham and/or the North West of England

We will consider applications for both contract and permanent positions. For permanent positions, we offer a generous employment package with a salary dependent on experience, performance, and responsibility, and which includes:  

  • £60,000 starting salary
